A pair of framed French Tapestries of courting couples in the countryside, by Manufacture Royale Braquenié, circa 1870.
Signed in the weave Braquenie to the lower left corner.
Dimension with frame: Height 78” x 62 ½ width.
Braquenié helped developing the art of tapestry in Aubusson and has been rewarded for it at the Exposition Universelle in 1844. In 1847, King Louis Philippe awarded Braquenié the title of "Manufacture Royale de Tapis". Braquenié has always served the Greatests (Madame Cliquot Ponsardin, Baron Haussmann, Duke of Padoue, Victor Hugo, Sultan Said Pasha, Emperor Maximilien, Theodor Rossevelt...).

A gilt-metal rooster by Christofle, Paris. Cast from life, on a marble base.
Circa 1900. Signed. Height: 23” inches.
Christofle introduced a series of animaux naturalises, which also include ducks, frogs and snakes, at the Paris exhibition of 1900. A coq d' ore nearly identical to this is still perched in the Train Bleu restaurant at the Gare de lyon in Paris, which was built as part of the 1900 exhibition.
